Foot Reflexology

The Muscle Therapy & Acupuncture Center offers Foot Reflexology as one of  it’s most appealing services.  So many of us have tired, sore feet, heel spurs, plantarfascitis, and other painful conditions.  Imagine a 50 minute treatment, targeting the feet, by a certified reflexologist. Your feet are worked in a specific manner to release the knots and relieve pain and stress. When your done you feel as if your walking on clouds! This makes an excellent gift for the person who may have never had any type of massage before.

What is Foot Reflexology?

Reflexology is more than a foot massage.  It is a science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet which correspond to all of the glands, organs, and parts of the body.  Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way, as a type of preventative maintenance.

Is Reflexology new?

The idea behind reflexology is not new – in fact, it’s ancient! It was practiced as early as 2330 B.C. by the Egyptian culture as seen in hieroglyphics.  Reflexology as we know it today was first researched and developed by Eunice Ingham, the pioneer in this field. Her book on the subject was published in 1938.  And since 1942, Reflexology training has been available.

What is the Ingham Method of Reflexology?

It is the combined work of the late Eunice Ingham and her nephew Dwight C. Byers, the world’s leading authority on Foot and Hand Reflexology.  Foot Reflexologists at the Muscle Therapy Center are trained and certified in the Ingham Method.

What does Reflexology do?

The Ingham Method of Reflexology is used primarily for relaxing tension.  Doctors agree that over 75% of our health problems can be linked to nervous stress and tension.  Reflexology improves nerve and blood supply and helps the body balance itself.

What is a treatment like?

A foot reflexology session begins with a relaxing foot soak.  Your therapist will briefly go over your health history and answer any questions you may have. The treatment lasts approximately 25 minutes on each foot (50 min. total). Specific techniques are used to stimulate various reflexes and reduce muscular tension and pain.  Be sure to let the therapist know if you have tender areas during the treatment.  Occasionally scent-free powder is used to reduce friction, and the treatment ends with a scent-free moisturizer applied to the foot.  We are carefully working with those who may have allergies.  If necessary, the treatment can be done without any product application at all.  When finished, you are left feeling refreshed and invigorated!
